The U.S. Department’s ban on handheld cellphone use for truckers will go into effect the first week of 2012.

Hands-free devices can still be utilized in trucks, but dialing, reaching and holding cellphones will no longer be permitted by commercial truck drivers. Each violation of the ban could result in a $2,750 fine.

If multiple offenses of this ban are cited, then the truck driver has the potential to lose his driver’s license. Trucking companies are urging their drivers to acquire a wireless headset so as to avoid confusion when driving through different states across the country.
