Texting Ban for Commercial Truck Drivers

Posted by Genie Wood on Fri, Jan 29, 2010 @ 01:32 AM

A new ruling by the federal government prohibits truck drivers and bus drivers from texting while driving. Concern about the use of cell phones while driving has risen in recent years as more and more people turn to texting, taking their eyes away from the road to send messages from their phones. Nineteen states and Washington, D.C., have already imposed a ban on texting while driving to all motorists.

The new ban takes effect immediately and applies to the drivers of commercial trucks and busses over ten-thousand pounds. Drivers who break the new law face a $2,700 fine.
