A report released by FreightWatch International has shown that cargo theft in the United States reached a record high amount in 2011.
Compared to 2010, the amount of cargo theft increased by 9 percent in 2011. The report shows that in 2011, the theft rates were 974, which is close to an 8.8 percent increase from the 2010 figures.
A small bright side to this information is that the value of each stolen cargo decreased in 2011. The average amount of cargo stolen in 2011 was roughly $319,000. This decline alludes to the fact that truck drivers are valuing their cargo more and being more protective of their trucks, making thieves target lesser value shipments.
