Deaf drivers now eligible for commercial driver's licenses

Posted by Genie Wood on Wed, Oct 19, 2011 @ 07:51 AM

There are over 20 hard of hearing and deaf truck drivers that have turned in paperwork to be considered for exclusion from DOT hearing requirements. These applicants are now being contemplated for a chance to obtain Commercial Driver's Licenses.

Constant support has managed for this issue to gain recognition with National Association of the Deaf.

The Department of Transportation has put in place testing to ensure that all truck drivers are competent on the road.

That testing made it almost impossible for deaf or hard of hearing truck drivers to receive a license.  The paperwork they submitted allows them to qualify for a license without having to take the formerly required hearing tests.
