Volcano interrupts air freight in Europe

Posted by Genie Wood on Mon, Apr 19, 2010 @ 04:27 AM

European cargo has had to shift from planes to trucks and trains after last week's volcano eruption in Iceland. Officials fear that the huge ash cloud hanging over Europe could damage aircraft. The crisis has interrupted global trade in varied goods, causing a huge economic fallout.

The European Union said Sunday that if the skies cleared enough, air traffic could resume to about half its normal level. Some airports began to open to limited traffic on Monday.
