The month of March saw retail sales go up 1.6 percent, the biggest increase in four months, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday. Economists had predicted that retail sales would go up only 1.2 percent, but excluding automobiles, purchases reached 0.6 percent higher than anticipated.
Nearly all trucking companies rely on retail sales, because those sales involve almost every type of cargo. This gain marks the fifth increase in six months.
