Federal funding for transportation was reinstated Tuesday as President Obama signed a Department of Transportation bill. The funding had been held up since Friday and disrupted work for thousands of transportation employees nationwide. Trucking associations urged Congress to consider the funding issue and make it move along quickly.
The bill also extended unemployment benefits. The workers, many of whom came from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, returned to work Wednesday morning.
