Cali. Trucking and Oil Industries Protest Expensive Fuels

Posted by Genie Wood on Mon, Feb 08, 2010 @ 06:43 AM

A new California mandate for low-carbon, cleaner fuels is being met with opposition by the trucking and oil industries, which say that the State is making it difficult to do business and violating laws on interstate commerce. The cost of these fuels is much higher than regular fuel, and for an industry literally driven by its fuel usage, this could be crippling.

Several groups have come together to file a lawsuit against the state. Not only would trucking companies have to pay a lot more for cleaner gas, they would also have to pay to replace the engines in their trucks for ones that will react better to natural gas.

The State hopes the mandate will help reduce gasoline dependence by 20 percent in 10 years.
