A program that was introduced in the United States to help speed up the ability to ship goods between the United States and Mexico has had some unfortunate side effects.  The program allows trucks to gain fast entry between the U.S. and Mexico border by being able to take a "fast lane" entrance into either country.  This program can allow large trucks to pass through between the borders without inspection.  This has caused drug traffickers to attempt to place shipments on these trucks.

Authorities have stated that even though a small fraction of the trucks are inspected,  law enforcement have found several shipments of drugs on these types of trucks.  Authorities have stated that they understand the serious nature of the problem and are attempting to make the program more secure.

Authorities in Lincoln, Nebraska are investigating a recent theft of a beer truck.  Over 244 kegs of beer were stolen as well as the truck in Lincoln.  The business owner reported the truck stolen on November 1st. 

Police are asking individuals with any information to come forward.  The truck is still at large and authorities have not been able to locate it.  Currently there are no suspects in the case and the police have no leads.

It appears that recovery is beginning to take shape for the freight and trucking industry.   According to recent reports,  slight growth has occurred in the industry which is a positive development from recent downturns.  However,  industry experts have warned that significant growth may not occur until around or after 2010.

A large truck that contained several hundred doses of swine flu vaccine that was scheduled to be delivered in Milwaukee was recently stolen.  The truck was parked in a parking lot outside of a center where vaccinations where being given. 

The truck was eventually recovered at a later time,  and the individual responsible for the theft was arrested.  Unfortunately the swine flu vaccinations can no longer be used and will have to be sent back to the manufacturer.  The reason for this is that the vaccines were out of the possession of the state health department, therefore they are not considered medically safe to use.

Due to recent pressure from advocacy groups, the Obama administration and the Federal Motor  Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) have agreed to take a new look at trucking regulations that allow truck drivers to stay on the road for 11 straight hours before resting.

Before the passage of the current laws, truckers were only allowed to drive for 10 hours at a time and rest for at least 50 hours at the end of the work week before getting back onto the road.

Although the FMCSA has agreed to review the current regulations, it has not yet announced its intentions. The agency's recommendations are expected to come within the next 9 months.
