Truck Tonnage Increases for December

Posted by Genie Wood on Fri, Jan 25, 2013 @ 04:14 PM

December saw one of the greatest increases in seasonally adjusted truck tonnage for the year of 2012, with the American Trucking Association’s For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index rising 2.8%. That was in addition to a gain of 3.9% in November, which in combination with December’s numbers left the overall truck tonnage hauled across our nation’s roadways at a net positive for the year.

Unfortunately, truck tonnage numbers actually decreased year over year, with December’s number being 2.3% below the comparable number for December, 2011. The decline was attributed by the American Trucking Association to the continuing economic uncertainty facing the U.S. economy. Further difficulties are expected for the first quarter of 2013, but as economic conditions continue to improve, the outlook is more hopeful for the latter parts of the year.

At TBS Factoring Service, we understand that economic uncertainty can make cash flow problems particularly pronounced for independent operators. That’s why we are dedicated to providing cash flow solutions through our freight factoring services. Contact our freight factoring experts today to learn more about what we can do for you.

Cost of Diesel Falls Once Again

The U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Information Administration reported that on average, diesel prices across the nation fell once again last week, with an average decrease of .07 cents per gallon.

However, despite this overall decrease in price, some regions in the U.S., including the Central Atlantic region and the Gulf Coast, saw prices increase last week.

Nationally, the cheapest diesel last week was found in the Rocky Mountain region, at $3.69 / gallon, while the most expensive was in New England, coming in at $4.15 / gallon.

At TBS Factoring Service, we know that gas prices can have a substantial effect on the financial well-being of your business, but even when gas prices are low, you still might find yourself in a financial bind if you have clients who won't make timely payments on invoices. Bill would allow for veterans to obtain CDL's where they are stationed

Posted by Genie Wood on Wed, Oct 03, 2012 @ 04:10 AM

As it is currently stated, military service members are only able to obtain a commercial drivers license, CDL, where their permanent place of resident is, rather than where they are stationed. With the passing of a new bill, that will soon change.

The Military Commercial Drivers License Act of 2012 was proposed as a way to have more experienced truck drivers on the road supporting the progress of the American economy. This bill would enable military veterans to apply for the CDL where they are stationed, making it more convenient for them to transition into an employed position outside of the military.

The bill was passed by the House and the Senate. The trucking industry will extremely benefit from the passing of this bill, as it will allow military veterans who have experience operating large commercial trucks to join the industry.

Freight factoring is an important factor to consider when joining the trucking industry. If you have questions regarding this step, please contact TBS Factoring today by calling 800-207-7661 today.

Non-recourse factoring

Posted by Genie Wood on Mon, Sep 10, 2012 @ 04:19 AM

There are two different types of truck factoring: non-recourse factoring and recourse factoring.

Non-recourse factoring for commercial trucks involves a factoring company taking the credit risk involved with insuring the freight load. This type of factoring is well-suited for trucking companies that possess a small number of trucks who have several different customers.

Benefits of non-recourse factoring include: no hidden sign up fees, no minimum on credit scores, no specific requirement on volume of freight, and the ability to not sign a long-term contract.

TBS Factoring will be able to help you set up a non-recourse factoring account for your company. To learn more about freight factoring and the non-recourse option, please contact TBS Factoring by calling 800-207-7661 today.

Trucking industry seeking new employees

Posted by Genie Wood on Mon, Aug 06, 2012 @ 08:54 AM

There are several open positions in the trucking industry. In fact, according to a spokesman for the American Trucking Association, there are roughly between 20,000 and 30,000 open trucking positions currently in the United States.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics expects this number to grow quite substantially by 2020, with 330,000 drivers needed by the time that fiscal year becomes a reality. A large problem involving the shortage of drivers is centered around current drivers aging and retiring before a new driver replaces them in their position.

Large trucking companies claim that they are constantly looking for new truckers, because they have large amounts of freight to move across the United States. Wages for these positions have also increased due to the strong competition among trucking companies for new employees.

Trucking industry in Florida to be effected by increase in toll roads

Posted by Genie Wood on Tue, Jul 10, 2012 @ 01:14 AM

The trucking industry in Florida is set to be negatively affected by the increase in toll roads and tolls in the state.

Due to a new legislation that recently passed, the number of toll roads in Florida will soon grow, and some toll road prices have already gone up. The state of Florida already holds the number one position for the most mileage of toll roads out of any state, with 657 miles.

Florida's trucking industry will feel the effects of this new legislation, and a financial burden will be apparent. The trucking industry has cut the number of trucking companies in half since the depression of 2008.

Truck factoring is important for truck drivers in order to function in their career successfully. If you have questions regarding truck factoring, please contact TBS Factoring by calling 800-207-7661 today.

Trucking industry searching for more truck drivers

Posted by Genie Wood on Tue, Jun 26, 2012 @ 08:28 AM

The trucking industry is in need of professional "big rig" truck drivers to haul freight throughout the United States. It is estimated that by the end of next year, there will be approximately 300,000 job openings in the trucking industry.

Truck drivers are responsible for transporting roughly 70 percent of all freight in the United States. An individual has to obtain a commercial driver's license in order to be able to work in the trucking industry.

The ability to earn a decent living is present with the position of a "big rig" trucker. Individuals already in the industry claim that you have to move up in the rankings, but that their jobs are important to the overall flow of the economy, and they enjoy what they do.

Freight factoring is also an important part of working in the trucking industry. If you have questions regarding truck factoring, please contact TBS Factoring by calling 800-207-7661 today.
